 The Harps

There can be no doubt that the harp plays a vital role in the cultural life of our nation, and I’m extremely proud of the fact that I own two harps that were manufactured here in Wales.

Allan Shiers completed my ‘Gwynneth’ concert harp in his workshop in Capel Dewi, south Ceredigion when I was in my late teens, and I had an input into the production process from the very beginning. It has a lovely mellow sound that has matured over the years.

It was Allan’s dream to establish a community enterprise that would safeguard Welsh harp making for future generations. This dream was realised some twelve years ago with the establishment of Telynau Teifi, the Harp Centre of Wales.

I own a Telynau Teifi ‘Eos’ lever harp, a 36 string handcrafted Celtic harp that boasts an exceptionally clear and rich sound. Though the ‘Eos’ is smaller in size and more convenient to transport, the quality of the sound is very similar to that of a concert harp.
